Tensions had been high in east London as BNP leader Nick Griffin joined his party's Romford candidate Bob Bailey on the streets.

Earlier some men had sworn and thrown fruit at Mr Griffin, according to the BBC.

When a man spat and swore at Mr Bailey he punched the abuser and a full scale fight broke out between the two groups

An 18-year-old man was later said to have gone to Barking police station to allege common assault against another man.

Mr Griffin told the BBC the fight came after 'a campaign of hatred and dehumanisation against any group of people, in this case us."
