The Federal Government has warned importers of used products not to make Nigeria a dumping ground for substandard materials that cannot stand the test of time.

The Minister of Transport, Senator Idris Umar, who gave the warning at the unveiling of the MAN Truck and Bus Centre in Lagos on Thursday, challenged automobile dealers.

He called for reliable after sales support and other maintenance programmes.

“This administration is determined that Nigeria does not become a dumping ground for all sorts of products, including automobiles. Nigerians must get value for their money used to patronise products on the Nigerian market,” he said.

Umar specifically said the dealers must make available modern workshops and spare part depots manned by well trained and certified personnel nationwide.

He also challenged them on the need to provide training facilities, fleet management services, service and maintenance contracts as well as reasonable warranty for buyers/users of their vehicles.

He said, “Government, therefore, expects Scoa Nigeria to fully support the MAN trucks and buses it is bringing into the country to ensure that the vehicles do not constitute a waste of resources to their owners and a drain to the economy.
