The Chief Executive Officer of Radiant Glow Skincare, Biodun Olusesan has emphatically stated that the African beauty and cosmetic market is being controlled by Asians because it is capital intensive.

“Asians are very powerful in the cosmetic business controlling distribution in the whole of UK. You cannot use any other distributor except the three main Asian distributors in the country.”

The manufacturer of the highly successful Radiant Glow skincare added that “starting a cosmetic shop required between £100-£150,000 and not £10,000 as some thought.”

He stated that even though Africans have the capital, they lacked the will to invest in the right kind of industry which explained why many Afro cosmetic shops folded up soon after their inception because the market was competitive and capital intensive.

BIodun Olusesan was speaking in the studios of Voice of Africa Radio when he was hosted on its Executive Voices on Monday.

The Biomedical Scientist and manufacturer told Voice of Africa Radio that he has been fascinated with the cosmetic and fashion industry for a long time and always looked for a way to revolutionize it which culminated in the manufacture of Radiant Glow products.

While studying at Essex University he did a lot of research into cosmetic products and got involved with this industry through a distribution network like most of the stores that sell cosmetic products, but soon realised it was time to go into manufacturing.

“I started out to go my own and start my own products, because I saw the potential, because most of the beauty products that we find in the UK, over 80% of them were imported from the US and the rest imported from the rest of the European countries like France, Spain and Italy”

The Chief Executive said that the reason why he decided to go into manufacturing was that the clients at his hair salon businesses in Walthamstow craved non-chemical based hair products, which were not on the market “so I did a bit of research to fill up that gap. I managed to launch my own skin care which is made up of botanical extracts only.”

He advised would be Africans who wish to go into the cosmetic business to launch their products in London” Like I said all the products sold in the country are imported. If you want to be successful in the industry, London is where you start from to supply your product. “
