| NIGERIA SHOULD BE DIVIDED - DARLINGTON DIKE |
“Nigeria has reached a point where we could be talking about two countries – southern Nigeria and northern Nigeria like we have in Sudan today,
I believe strongly that Nigeria as it is, we are too big to govern ourselves” he said. Lawyer Darlington was emphatic about this division and asked his fellow countrymen “Do we really need to remain as one Nigeria? My answer to that question will be no we don’t,” he maintained. Darlington Dike was contributing to a discussion hosted by Voice of Africa Radio on Nigeria following the recent bomb attacks in the country perpetuated by Boko Haram. Touching on Northern Nigerians seeking to rule perpetually, Lawyer Darlington maintained that, in a country as large as Nigeria the people must not dwell on where the president came from. “Whoever is the choice of the people should be allowed to govern, it cannot be a preserve of a particular tribe to rule the country” he said. He said he will go for the division of the county without resorting to war or violence, and suggested “Southern Nigeria ought to sit and talk face to face with the northerners and say, please a time has come for us to go our own way, a time has come for you to go your own way to maintain our unity, to maintain our security, to maintain our safety” he said. Commenting on the activities of Boko Haram, the leading lawyer noted the primary objective of Boko Haram is to Islamize entire country. “They want to use force to spread Islamic religion to every part of the country. I think they have cried out several times to have Sharia Law extended to every part of the country, but it is not going to happen” Darlington declared. He said Nigeria is a very big country even though “Nigeria is technologically bankrupt, intellectually, we have very sound intellectuals in Nigeria who don’t want that to happen, “he added. “Boko Haram cannot propagate their agenda by the use of force, it will not work,it has never worked and is not going to work especially in our time. Boko Haram will be crushed just like other groups which used to create riots in Nigeria.” Darlington said President Goodluck Jonathan was in a tight corner though he may have the desire and the will to go after these people ,he will be impeded by the people around him considering that they are from the north. “What I hear is Babangida is still there, he is still pushing his weight, I hear about Mohammed Buhari, and other people that at one point ruled Nigeria they are still there and they are still pushing, some of them want to come back, if they are there they are going to make life extremely difficult for the current president” he added. Lawyer Darlington concluded “the southerners must stand up, the southerners must smell the coffee, and the southerners must discover the agenda of the north and say enough is enough” he maintained.
