FIFA Reschedules Inspection Visit to Nigeria PDF Print E-mail
World soccer governing body, FIFA has scheduled their visit to inspect Nigerian facilities for the hosting of the 2009 Under-17 world cup.

FIFA officials were being expected this week, but that visit has been shifted to the middle of June. It was gathered that a key member of the visiting delegation took ill and was hospitalised.

FIFA executive director of communications, Jim Brown disclosed this in a letter to the Nigeria 2009 Local Organizing Committee that the visit can no longer hold this week.

On their first visit earlier in the year, the delegation led by FIFA vice president, Jack Warner scored the facilities including the National Stadium Lagos low. However, Nigerian officials assured that things would be put in proper order by the time the inspection team returns this May. The rescheduled inspection tour will no doubt give the LOC more time to put its act together.

According to the LOC General Manager, marketing, Emeka Inyama there has been a lot of improvement on the facilities adding that FIFA officials will not be disappointed.

Inyama who was also General Manager marketing for the commercially successful 2003 All Africa Games in Abuja declared that Nigeria will do a good job of hosting the tournament, which was last hosted by South Korea and won by Nigeria's Golden Eaglets.

"We have done it before and this time we are going to do it much better. The LOC has been working hard to ensure that all the lapses noticed during the first FIFA inspection visit are corrected," Inyama said.
