NIGERIA'S 44TH INDEPENDENCE DAY PARTY Print

Entertainment Reporter: Femi Akanmode

Truly Nigerians know how to celebrate any event or occasion in style and the 44th Nigerian Independence Day party held at the prestigious SE One nightclub in London Bridge was not different, it was a fantastic event. I am sure that anyone in attendance on the night will agree that the BLACKNIGHTS (Blacknights Entertainment) really know how to throw a great party.

It was a total roadblock, outside the venue revellers queued up in both directions spanning the entire length of the road underneath the bridge, most of them with their tickets clutched tightly in hand and anticipating the night or morning ahead.

Music flowed throughout the night in all four arenas, the music never stopped and was really quite excellent if I might add, there was definitely something for everyone. From Reggae to Juju, Hip Hop to Bashment and Fuji to R & B, I could go on and on. There were also live performances from some new and familiar acts including Lex, Savannah, 4 Korners, and Alexandra Bell.

Everyone looked lovely on the night, the ladies looked so gorgeous either in their tailor-made traditional wear or English wear, but must women came there literally naked, you can tell from the pictures. There were so many different styles and fashions on show, the best were those that came in never before seen customised outfits, Nigerians are really creative and I can’t wait to see the styles that will be worn same time next year.

The many fashions on the night were celebrated through the annual best traditional wear contest with a cash prize of £50 for the winner and consolation prizes for the losers included CDs and Bottles of Champagne. The results of this particular contest were inaccurate because the entrants and the winner surely did not have the best outfits of the night.

There were several giveaways on the night as well, these ranged from CDs to posters to Hair products to T- shirts. Some of those lovely ladies on the night should have probably had their hand given away in marriage as well or maybe a dating contest should have been held to hook up the big guys.

The Annual Mr. Nigeria UK contest was in my opinion the highlight of the night; it was good to see all the guys strutting their stuffs, well, infact, I have never witnessed a Nigeria Beauty Contest for Males. The crowd got really involved and the ladies could not stop screaming, I think a few of them might have actually fainted they couldn’t stand the naked bodies sexy bodies . At one point one of the contestants had his towel pulled off his waist, luckily he had his swimming trunks on to protect his decency.

The contest was won by Temitayo with Roger as 1st Runner Up.

Overall Voice of Africa Radio team had a great time at the event and we hope to be there again next year.

This guy with a wide grin and seeming very pleased with himself was the true winner of the traditional wear competition. He had far more personality, compared to the contestants.

Contestant number five for the Nigeria UK crown, Mr. Dipo, just catching his breath back stage, bear in mind this whole event was quite breath-taking, especially if you were one of those in the spotlight.
